Robots found Lake Superior under
water ice on Mars, a dusty frost
melting into liquid brine. Lately
you’ve been looking into the blue,
but I don’t care
for red light on red walls, red America
under red clouds, rusty ground
growing russet grass.
Triple the pressure.
Now I wake
to water on the bedside. Fingerprints
in condensation as the ice melts,
rain down to pool on the stand.
They've cut the pipeline just in time,
but California’s still on fire
as I turn over.
Each day I feel us spinning
closer to the sun.
In the doctor’s office, a model
of a molar sits precariously
over my head until I feel a sudden absence
in the air around me,
like the moment after a static shock. Rocketship
countdown to the end of the world
is sounding more like the phone ringing
or someone knocking on my door.
